LINGUA ET LINGUISTICA
Background
The JLL Project has published three on-line journal titles:
Journal of Language and Linguistics
Journal of Language and Literature
Journal of Language and Learning
These titles have now published almost 200 articles by scholars from many universities around the world. The Journals gain their strength from academic review, the quality of the articles, the prestige of many of the universities of the contributors and the very many references and on-line links. Our feedback confirms that they are well-regarded.
The JLL Project is now moving away from depending solely on on-line publication, and is introducing paper publication with on-line support through provision of an on-line abstract. This reflects the requests of many contributors and potential contributors, as well as the requirements of many academic research assessment mechanisms around the world which give a higher value to paper-based publication.
For some months we have been investigating this idea, and have been examining a funding model for a paper journal, Lingua et Linguistica. The process has taken longer than we had anticipated, and therefore our apologies to those authors who had looked for an earlier resolution or shown interest in the project a few months ago.
We have now secured a revised funding model which will allow us to publish Lingua et Linguistica, and which allows us to move ahead promptly. Our revised funding model removes author publishing subsidies. Papers which are of a quality worthy of publication will be published without cost to the author. We believe that this is in the best interests both of authors and of Lingua et Linguistica, and is the best way for us to demonstrate our quality to the international academic community.
ABOUT LINGUA ET LINGUISTICA
Lingua et Linguistica will be published several times a year dependent on the supply of quality submissions, and will therefore be an irregular periodical, at least for its first year. We estimate six issues per year. We aim for prompt publication of articles submitted to us in the format set out below. Our intention is for publication between 1 and 3 months of submission. Please note that we are not guaranteeing this time.
Issues of Lingua et Linguistica will be available through on-line bookshops including Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and will be advertised direct to universities, as well as on-line through the JLL website. The guide price is £20 (twenty pounds sterling, approximately US $40) per issue, subject to change should our publisher require. On-line bookshops usually take 4 to 6 weeks to list newly published academic books.
The format will be 6” x 9” paperback, ie a typical size and style for academic journals.
Please note that we are unable to provide complimentary copies or article off-prints to contributors. Contributors must therefore buy their own copy should they wish to own it, or request it through their institution’s book purchase or Inter-Library-Loan system. There will be no exceptions to this, as the financial model of the journal does not permit such gratuities without an author funding subsidy, a model we have decided not to pursue.
